& HYTTA
Christian Levorsen Garnaas married Guri Knutsdatter Svenkerud. They had at least two sons, Levor Christianson Garnaas (17?) and Ole Kristiansen Garnaas (1784). 1) Levor Christianson Garnaas was born in Nesbyen, Norway to Christian Levorsen and Guri Garnaas. He married Margit Olsdatter Huseplassen (1784-1868) in 1818. Margit was born to Ole Olsen Huseplassen and Guri Kristoffersdatter Froysok in 1784. They were farmers. They had at least one son Christian Levorson Hallibakken Garnaas (1820). Levor died prior to 1865 and Margit in 1868. Sometimes their name is written Hallibakken so they must have lived there too.
2) Ole Kristiansen Garnaas was born in Nesbyen in 1784 to Christian Levorsen Garnaas and Guri Knutsdatter Svenkerud to Christian Levorsen and Guri Garnaas. He was a farmer. He married Sigrid Syversdatter Rukke Hytta (1783-1878) the 14 July 1825. Sigrid was born to Syver Arneson Rukke and Ingrid Haakonsdatter in 1783 (or 1782) in Rukkedalen, Nes. Guri Olsdatter Hytta (1827-1895) is their only child. However, Sigrid was married before to Knut Aslesen Borgen (1763-1823). They had four girls; Barbro Hytta Borgen (1808), Ingrid Hytta Borgen (1812), Joran Hytta Borgen (1815) and Margit Hytta Borgen (1821). Sigrid and Knut bought the farm Hytta in 1810. From then on, the farm remained in the family. Ole died in 1866 and Sigrid in 1878.
Levor Kristiansen
Hytta was born at Tunhovd, Norway the 26 August 1846 to Guri Olesdatter Hytta and
Kristian Levorson Hallibakken. In Norway at that time, people took the last name of the
family farm if they lived there or if they didnt they took their fathers first
name and added sen or dotter to it. He married Ingrid Knutsdotter Skarpaas in 1874. She was the daughter of Knut Torsteinson Skarpaas Mykoa and Bergit Knutsdotter Kodalen. She was born, a twin, on the 27 January 1851 in a small farm called Solset in Oygardsgrend, about 25 km from Tunhovd. They had eight children all born at Tunhovd, Norway -
Levor bought Hytta farm in 1875 from his mother. He paid $400 plus a pension for Hytta with the summer farm Myrestollen and the fishing rights in Rodungsoset. Levor was an unusually clever and versatile man with a good understanding and skill for all kinds of work. He was a timber man, carpenter, blacksmith, plasterer and boat builder. He made many rowboats and barges. They were known to be light rowing and good on the water. For that purpose he worked a trout fish hatchery at Hytta. In the National Census in 1875 we find at Hytta, Levor Kristiansen, 29 years old and Ingrid Knutsdatter Skarpaas, 25 years old, along with their son Kristian. They had a hired boy and nursemaid. Also Levors mother Guri and Guris daughters Margit and Guri and son Ole and Levors grandmother Sigrid Syversdatter (Guris mother). Ingrid died the 16 February 1902 and Levor on 24 October 1929 in Nesbyen, Norway. |
